Wound Care:
The Wound Care Center is dedicated to and focused on the treatment of patients with chronic non-healing wounds resulting from a variety of causes, including diabetes and vascular disease.
Why Wound Care?
Nearly five million Americans suffer with chronic wounds that don’t heal or fail to improve within six weeks. While most wounds heal quickly, there are specific types of wounds that cause severe problems if left untreated. Three main factors for non-healing wounds include: diabetes, poor circulation and limited mobility.
The Wound Care Center’s staff of specially trained physicians and nurses, working in conjunction with your primary care physician, helps with the diagnosis and treatment of the following types of wounds and medical conditions:
- Arterial ulcers – Arterial wounds are caused by a lack of blood flow to the wound.
- Burns
- Diabetic and neuropathic ulcers – Diabetic and neuropathic ulcers occur when a person can not feel an injury to an area. High blood sugar levels and nerve damage can cause this loss of feeling.
- Lower extremity edema - swelling of the feet and/or ankles.
- Pressure ulcers – Pressure ulcers are caused by sitting or lying in the same position for a prolonged period of time.
- Problem surgical wounds
- Trauma wounds
- Venous stasis ulcers – Venous stasis wounds form when the veins of the legs are unable to remove blood and fluid efficiently.
What Type Of Care Can I Expect At The Wound Care Center?
The Wound Care Center offers evidence based care which is proven to reduce complications and amputations related to chronic, non-healing wounds.
Wound Care may include:
- Patient and wound assessment
- Wound measurement and photographs
- Debridement to aid in the removal of dead, damaged, or infected tissue by surgical or other means to improve the healing potential of the remaining healthy tissue
- Laboratory and Vascular evaluation
- Advanced wound dressings
- Compression dressings
- Prosthetic and pressure relief assistance
- Wound VAC
- General and vascular surgery
- Hyperbaric Medicine
What is Hyperbaric Medicine?
Hyperbaric Medicine is a non-invasive procedure often used to treat chronic non-healing wounds. During Hyperbaric Medicine the patient is placed in a chamber containing 100% oxygen at pressures of more than one Atmosphere. Hyperbaric treatments typically last about 2 hours. Most patients will feel no differently than they would at home in their beds. They can listen to music or watch TV, talk to family members, or simply take a nap.
